February was the month I turned 30. The month I’d been in New York for two years… and then out of no where, except maybe old age, it was the month Ada died.
She died shortly after a stroke which brought her to hospital, where she remained sedated until she passed on.
A candle now burns in her apartment, but her spirit is definitely gone. Gone far far away from here and hopefully to the place she had been yearning to go for so many years.
the lioness herself.

Ally I'm so sorry. Are you okay?
ReplyDeleteWhat a momentous month. And what a beautiful photo of Ada.
It sounds like she wasn't in pain when she passed which is good. It was her time. It still must be very sad for you.
I'm looking forward to seeing you very soon. I get in next Monday so maybe that following weekend (19th) we can catch up and have a drink for Ada (and to turning 30 - the best of all the ages)?

Oh wow Ally I'm so sorry! I have absolutely loved following your crazy stories of her antics - what a character she was. I think it would have been marvellous to meet her. She has clearly played such an important role in your life in NYC and it must feel like a strange place without her now. But I think she injected you with a wonderful spirit of adventure and independence and you can go forward knowing she thought you were just fabulous - her beautiful Aussie great-niece gave her a reminder of what it was like to be a young woman with the world at her feet.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're now 30!! YAY!!! Your 30's will be amazing, I promise..
Lots of love xxx
Ally,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry I haven't checked into the blag for ages. I hope that New York in it's new state is a brand new exciting and independant adventure for you. I also send all my love to your Aunt Ada - What a woman...She really was amazing to hear about through your blog.
Melbourne hearts you as always.
